Cross-bleed — one source, both sides

MANUAL VALVE
LINKS L & R MANIFOLDS

The cross-bleed valve connects the left and right pneumatic manifolds, so a single source — one engine, or the APU — can supply air to both sides. Common uses include starting one engine from the other's bleed (cross-bleed start) or from the APU, and running both packs from a single operating engine during single-engine taxi.

BLEED SOURCES

  • Each engine has HP and IP bleed ports
  • APU bleed usable on ground and at lower altitudes in flight
  • Ground cart provides external air with no engine or APU running

CONSUMERS

  • Air conditioning packs (1 and 2) condition cabin air
  • Wing and engine anti-ice use hot bleed air to prevent ice buildup
  • Also pressurizes hydraulic reservoirs and the water tank

BMC

  • Bleed Monitoring Computer regulates pressure and valve positions
  • Detects duct leaks via temperature-sensing loops
  • Can automatically isolate a leaking section
